The 6th International Symposium on Marine Sciences took place in Vigo during the 20th, 21st and 22nd of June. This event was organized with the collaboration of the six spanish universities in which the Marine Sciences Degree is taught: Alicante, Barcelona, Cádiz , Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Valencia and Vigo.
Matching with this scientific gathering, the XIX Iberian Seminar of Marine Chemistry, the Spanish Physical Oceanography meeting 2018, the Iberian meeting of Toxic Phytoplankton 2018 and the Campus do Mar ISC ‘ 18, encouraging the meeting and exchanges among the students and professionals in the field of Marine Sciences.
Our participation in the Congress was an opportunity to disseminate the results of two of our working lines, which we presented through an oral session and a poster, in addition to the numerous interactions with other sea sciences colleagues.
“DEPOSITION STUDY OF SOLUBLE AEROSOL-DERIVED IRON AND
NUTRIENTS TO THE CANARY BASIN” was the title of the talk conducted by Abisai Melián, which exposed the work perfomed by Gelado-Caballero et al. (unpublished) regarding the fluxes of iron depositions in the Canary Islands basin.
“UNDERWAY WATER SYSTEM OF RESEARCH VESSELS: OPTIMIZATION OF A METHOD FOR SMALL MICROPLASTICS SAMPLING IN OCEANIC WATERS” is the title of the poster presented by Tania Montoto, which showed some preliminary results of the MARCET Project after the use of a prototype passive microplastic sampler, installed on board of opportunity boats, as is the case of the current collaboration with the SailingLivingLab initiative.
