We talk about our Microplastics Sampler in ConCiencia Canaria – TelevisiónCanaria

ConcienciaCanaria is a docuseries on technology, science and ecology that addresses different issues such as climate change and habitat conservation and shows how the archipelago is a world reference in different areas of research, including the study and mitigation of the impacts of microplastics.

Conciencia Canaria - Noticia La Provincia
News about the premiere of the docuseries “ConcienciaCanaria” in La Provincia. 30/05/21

The first chapter, that was broadcast last night on Televisión Canaria, is dedicated to “The Planet” and had the participation of the Minister of Science and Innovation, Pedro Duque. It shows the work being done in the Canary Islands to discover new habitable worlds, while at the same time it affects, as a counterpart, the action and research to preserve our planet.

On the latter, and in relation to the impact of marine litter and microplastics, we explained the operation of MuMi, our first Microplastics Sampler, and talked with May Gómez, from the Marine Organisms Ecophysiology Group (EOMAR), about the impact of these particles on the marine environment and the importance of the research findings carried out in the Canary Islands.

When we started to study microplastics in the marine environment we saw how, in addition to everything that reaches us on the beach, there was much more that stayed in the water column, in the sea … and in the end… the sea is the immensity of the planet!
